Defining ADD & ADHD.

When having a discussion about ADHD or ADD treatment, its important to understand what defines these ailments. Living with ADD means that your brain can't correctly control attention, making it hard to resist impulses and complete monotonous tasks. About one quarter of children with ADD, or attention deficit disorder, also have restlessness leading to ADHD. Even a seemingly calm child can still be diagnosed with attention deficit issues.

ADD is a common issue facing a surprisingly high percentage of Americans, including hundreds of thousands of adults who suffer from Adult ADD. Having ADD can be dangerous when you love playing extreme sports such as heli skiing, so receiving the right treatment is important to improve your lifestyle.

All too often the 1st suggested remedy is to medicate, which although effective, can lead to other unwanted side effects. There now is an alternative that is increasing in popularity as growing numbers of people become aware of it. This new option is Drug Free ADD Treatment. Drug Free ADD treatment relies on improving cognitive skills by giving the brain a 'workout' with games and puzzles.

Cognitive skills are high level functions that are executed by the human brain. These functions include auditory processing, comprehension, attention & information processing, and problem solving. These are processes which are required for learning, and they differ from the typical skills we learn through our academic schooling. When a child has an issue in one of these areas, their ability to learn will be hindered, and their academic performance may suffer.

Cognitive skills "map" to areas of the brain, and by "working out" the parts of the brain linked to a child's identified cognitive weakness, over time measurable improvements in cognitive functioning can occur. This leads to diminished symptoms of learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD disorders. This also leads to improvements in school and academic performance.

How Advanced Methods are Diagnosing ADD/ADHD

To ensure that patients have access to the most accurate diagnosis as well as the most effective solutions, many medical offices offering ADD Diagnosis and subsequent treatment are using a complete battery of neuro-psychological and psycho-educational tests. These tests are a result of the very latest scientific research. These tests are also highly specialized for differential diagnosis for ADD/ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Learning and Mood Disorders, Dyslexia, Auditory Processing Disorders, & Asperger's Disorder,.

Similar to how an EKG will reveal a heart condition, brain maps will provide data on brain functions. Analyzing a person's brain activity with normative databases, a clinically accurate statistical compression will be obtained that measures normal brain function and typical patterns of dysregulation associated with specific conditions, including ADHD, non-verbal learning disorders, seizures, mood disorders, head injuries, and depression.
